Apple launched the iPhone 15 Pro alongside the rest of the iPhone 15 series back in late September 2023, causing a bit of a stir in the ailing US smartphone market. Shortly after the launch, however, early adopters started posting online about battery swelling in iPhone 15 Pro units, which turned out to be the most popular of the lot.
In a recent post on r/iPhone on Reddit, user u/ACESHIGH10203 posted about their 3-month-old iPhone 15 Pro and its battery swelling issues — as well as an earlier issue that involved a hair in the camera lens from the factory.
In the comments on their post, the user mentioned that they had already been to the Apple Store, where a representative confirmed that the iPhone 15 Pro seems to be more prone to manufacturing issues than previous iPhones and the rest of the iPhone 15 line-up.

In our reviews, we didn't notice huge differences between the power consumption or thermal output of the iPhone 15 Pro and that of the regular iPhone 15, which doesn't seem to be suffering the same issues. The two devices do have different battery capacities. These factors indicate that it could be some sort of supply chain or manufacturing issue plaguing early units of the iPhone 15 Pro.
Tests from other outlets did, however, notice that Apple seems to be pushing a higher charge rate for longer in the iPhone 15 Pro than on the iPhone 15 — seemingly to reduce charging times by nearly a half an hour. It's possible that a battery that's just below spec could be pushed over the edge into spicy pillow territory by high temperatures or wattage during charge.
The units experiencing issues all seem to have been purchased around late September or early October, reinforcing the idea that this may be some sort of early production QC issue. However, given that Apple markets the iPhone 15 Pro as a premium device, the messy launch period certainly besmirches the company's reputation for making some of the most desirable tech products.
While Apple hasn't yet issued any response or created a replacement program for it, all the owners posting online seem to have resolved their issues via warranty replacement.
