Retroid has revealed various details about the Pocket 4 and Pocket 4 Pro, both successors to the popular Pocket 3 Plus. While the pair look similar, Retroid has distinguished them by including different chipsets, RAM configurations and video output options.

Retroid has presented the Pocket 4 and Pocket 4 Pro, a pair of retro gaming handhelds powered by MediaTek Dimensity chipsets. For context, roughly six weeks have passed since the company started teasing the Pocket 2S Metal Edition, which still remains unavailable to purchase. As their names suggest, the Pocket 4 and Pocket 4 Pro actually succeed the Pocket 3 series, which Retroid most recently refreshed with the Pocket 3 Plus Metal Edition.

While the Pocket 4 and Pocket 4 Pro carry over the Pocket 3 series' overall design, both promise to deliver significantly better performance than their predecessors. Specifically, Retroid has equipped the Pocket 4 and Pocket 4 Pro with the Dimensity 900 and Dimensity 1100, respectively. According to our database, the two chipsets are evenly matched despite the Dimensity 1100 having more powerful GPU and CPU cores.

Retroid separates the Pocket 4 and Pocket 4 Pro in other areas too, such as 4 GB of RAM for the former but 8 GB of RAM for the latter. Additionally, only the Pocket 4 Pro will support DisplayPort Alt Mode via USB Type-C at 1080p. However, both devices can connect to external displays via HDMI, albeit at 720p rather than 1080p.

Conversely, both handhelds will ship with a 4.7-inch IPS panel that resolves at 1,334 x 750 pixels with 450 nits peak brightness. Likewise, the Pocket 4 and Pocket 4 Pro rely upon 5,000 mAh batteries, weigh 261 g and measure 184.8 x 82.6 x 15.8 mm. Although Retroid has not confirmed a launch date for either model yet, it has outlined launch pricing. As the images below show, $50 will separate the Pocket 4 and Pocket 4 Pro, which will eventually be available for $149 and $199, respectively.
