While Valve is gradually eliminating more and more bugs from Steam OS, Deck Buttons is adding a number of new bugs to the Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED. The accessory specialist offers transparent D-Pads that encase insects in synthetic resin.

Those wanting to give their Steam Deck a truly unique look and have no issues with dead insects, Deck Buttons is now offering a peculiar D-Pad that can be installed in the gaming handheld by the user.

The manufacturer at least offers an instruction guide showing how to disassemble the Steam Deck correctly. Production is done by hand, each D-Pad consists of four layers of synthetic resin, and the surface is polished by hand to achieve a shiny, flawless finish. The white background provides strong contrast to the insect, which is preserved by the resin.

Deck Buttons stresses that no insects are harmed in the production of the Dead Bug D-Pad. Instead, the insects used are 'respectfully collected' after they have met their natural end, such as in spider webs, on window sills or in the forest. The D-Pads are thus also intended as a tribute to the beauty of nature, or to create the right Halloween atmosphere when playing during the spookiest time of the year.

Prices and availability

The Dead Bug D-Pad for the Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED is now available via the Deck Buttons website for $39.99 plus shipping and import VAT. Buyers can choose between six designs. However, the final buttons will differ from the product images due to variations in different insects. Deck Buttons includes a protective cover that can also be used to store the original D-Pad.
