The Steam Winter Sale will start on December 21, 2023, discounting some of 2023's biggest games. Exact discounts are still a mystery, but Valve dropped a YouTube trailer revealing a few excellent games coming to the Winter Sale, including the addictive Satisfactory and the genre-melding Atomic Heart.

1. Atomic Heart

Atomic Heart was a somewhat divisive game when it launched, but it's hard to argue that the AAA FPS isn't unique. Between the visuals and the way the developers have combined aspects from different genres — everything from puzzle-platformers and bullet-hell to boss rush make an appearance — Atomic Heart earns its place as one of 2023's more ambitious releases.

The game follows a human protagonist as he tries to get to the bottom of what turned the utopian world upside-down. At your disposal are a handful of weapons, including a shotgun, axe, and a power glove that must be used in harmony to triumph in the game's visceral, challenging combat encounters.

Valve has teased that Atomic Heart will be on sale during the Steam Winter Sale, starting on December 21, 2023, but the game is also already discounted by 42–50% on Steam. Perhaps it will cost less than the $34.79 (€34.79) it is currently going for.

2. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege has been with us since 2015, but it seems to still be a rather popular game, with anywhere between 38,000 and 58,000 players online at any given time in recent months. The tactical shooter sees players face off in teams of five to outsmart and outgun one another in realistic combat where communication and planning are key.

Despite the focus on tactics, Rainbow Six Siege features fast-paced combat in close quarters, while the destructible environment and ever-changing classes, maps, and weapons add to the chaos.

Normally, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege goes for $19.99 on Steam, but previous sales have seen it as low as $4.99, so we'll likely see similar low prices repeated when the 2023 Steam Winter Sale rolls around.

3. Satisfactory

Satisfactory is described by its developer as a "first-person open-world factory building game with a dash of exploration and combat," and that description in itself should tell you all about the melding of genres going on here. Instead of the bird's-eye view, Satisfactory treats players to an up-close look at the destruction they bring upon the lush alien planet they exploit. The basic premise of the game is that you, the player, are tasked with building and maintaining a factory to extract the resources from a shiny new alien planet.

Satisfactory, despite being a bit of a goofy game, is often regarded as a bit challenging in the beginning, largely due to the scale and how many things players have to juggle, but there's also a lot of freedom in the game. You can haphazardly expand, just barely scraping by on machines choking on their own inefficiency, or you can make your facility a shining beacon of order and capitalist productivity.

Satisfactory is confirmed to be discounted during the 2023 Steam Winter Sale, and its previous all-time low was $16.49, or 45% off the $29.99 standard price. Given that the game is now already a few years old, it could go even lower this December 21 when the sale starts.
