According to a fresh report by known tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the upcoming Dimensity 9400 will be manufactured using TSMC's second-generation 3 nm process and will feature a combination of Cortex-X5 cores. Like its predecessor, the 9400 will also not include efficiency cores, going all in with a performance core-only design.

In the competitive world of mobile processors, the upcoming MediaTek Dimensity 9400 is generating significant interest for its anticipated performance. Information sourced from Digital Chat Station on Weibo provides insights into the chipset's key attributes - such as its foundation on TSMC's second-gen 3 nm process and utilization of ARM's CPU and GPU designs.

A noteworthy departure from the efficiency cores as seen in its predecessor, the Dimensity 9300, the 9400 is expected to adopt a similar all-performance core design, featuring a combination of Cortex-X5 cores. This design shift aims to enhance raw performance over efficiency, aligning with MediaTek's intentions of dethroning Qualcomm's Snapdragon as the Android chip king. Digital Chat Station states that the "design performance" is very strong, which reveals enthusiasts can expect a healthy jump in performance from the 9300.

The Dimensity 9400's use of TSMC's second-gen 3 nm process is a focal point of discussion. Referred to as the N3E process, it is expected to offer improved cost-effectiveness and superior yields as compared to the first-gen N3B process used in Apple's latest A and M series chips. This suggests MediaTek's intent to balance cost efficiency with optimal performance, potentially making the chipset an attractive option for smartphone manufacturers and consumers.

In the ultra-competitive mobile SoC landscape, the Dimensity 9400 faces stiff rivalry from Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip. Expected to feature Qualcomm's custom Oryon CPU, which gained recognition in the X Elite laptop chip, reportedly demonstrated impressive performance, even surpassing Apple's M2 in certain workloads. The upcoming competition between the Dimensity 9400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is set to be a significant development in the mobile processor market.
