MediaTek's upcoming Dimensity 9400 chipset, according to tipster Digital Chat Station, will sport Cortex-X5 and Cortex-X4 cores on TSMC's 3 nm lithography along with a new ARM Immortalis-G9XX GPU, likely the Immortalis-G920. Initial benchmarks suggest modest GPU performance gains, but promising Geekbench scores hint at significant improvements in raw processing power.

The internet has been abuzz with rumors regarding MediaTek's upcoming Dimensity 9400 chipset, with expectations pointing towards a continuation of their collaboration with ARM for CPU and GPU designs. Renowned tipster Digital Chat Station has provided insights into the specifications, shedding light on the upcoming flagship SoC's expected CPU and GPU performance

According to Digital Chat Station's previous disclosures on Weibo, the Dimensity 9400 will incorporate a configuration comprising one Cortex-X5 and three Cortex-X4 cores, based on TSMC's 2nd-generation 3 nm 'N3E' lithography. Additionally, the leaker now claims the chipset is anticipated to showcase the new ARM Immortalis-G9XX series GPU, a successor to the Immortalis-G720 featured in the Dimensity 9300.

While specifics regarding the Immortalis GPU model remain undisclosed, speculations by DCS hint at the possibility of it being labeled as the Immortalis-G920. Initial performance evaluations, however, suggest a rather modest improvement over its predecessor. Reports from GFXBench Aztec benchmarks indicate a 12 percent increase in performance, with the Dimensity 9400 achieving 110FPS compared to the Dimensity 9300's 99FPS. Nonetheless, these scores must be taken with a grain of salt, given how unreliable benchmarks can be on unreleased hardware.

Further insights from alleged Geekbench 6 scores reveal promising performance metrics for the Dimensity 9400, with a single-core score of 2,700 and multi-core scores nearing the 10,000 mark, a significant step up from the Dimensity 9300's multi-core score of around 7,500. Although falling short of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4's rather shocking rumored multi-core performance, MediaTek strides towards significant generational improvements, even keeping up with the desktop-class Apple M3, signifying a notable advancement in smartphone processing power.

While benchmark scores offer valuable insights, real-world performance hinges on a wide spectrum of factors beyond raw processing power. Nevertheless, the prospect of such formidable performance packed into smartphones heralds an exciting era for mobile technology enthusiasts.
