Microsoft Surface Laptop 6 and Surface Pro 10 may not ship until summer 2024
The Surface Laptop 5 and Surface Pro 9 have been on the market for well over a year at this point, having been presented simultaneously during Microsoft's October 2022 hardware event. For reference, both The Verge and Windows Central concur that Microsoft will deliver business-focused devices later this month. Conversely, the pair are in disagreement about when true Surface Laptop 5 and Surface Pro 9 successors will debut.
Initially, Windows Central implied that the Surface Laptop 6 and Surface Pro 10 would land on March 21 alongside their 'for Business' counterparts. However, The Verge reports that 'sources familiar with Microsoft's plans' have informed them that a consumer Surface Pro 10 will not be present during this month's event. Instead, The Verge asserts that 'the March event is focused on minor commercial refreshes of existing Surface models'.
Unfortunately, it is unclear when Microsoft will unveil any new consumer devices. Nonetheless, both are expected to begin shipping in June. At any rate, The Verge and Windows Central have disclosed numerous product highlights, including an OLED display upgrade for the Surface Pro series. In summary, the pair currently believe that the Surface Laptop 6 and Surface Pro 10 will ship with the following changes from their predecessors:
Surface Laptop 6
- ARM-only chipsets (Snapdragon X Elite derived)
- Haptic touchpad
- Dedicated Copilot key
- Second USB Type-C port alongside existing I/O
- Thinner display bezels with rounded corners
Surface Pro 10
- Anti-reflective OLED display with HDR support
- ARM-only chipsets (Snapdragon X Elite derived)
- NFC reader
- Ultra-wide-angle front-facing webcam
