MediaTek Dimensity 9400 IPC advantage over Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Apple A17 Pro leaks
Much has been said of the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 over the past months. The upcoming flagship SoC will likely retain the all-big-core design of the Dimensity 9300 with performance that seemingly gives the Snadragon 8 Gen 4 and the Apple A18 Pro a tough competition. Adding to this, the latest report from Digital Chat Station reveals the Dimensity 9400’s IPC advantage.
Various leaks have already confirmed that MediaTek is working directly with ARM and is utilizing the latter’s CPU and GPU architectures in the Dimensity 9400 without any custom work. DCS alleges that the Dimensity 9400 relies on “BlackHawk” which is said to be the name of “ARM’s latest CPU architecture”.
Additionally, the leaker places the Dimensity 9400 ahead of offerings from Apple and Qualcomm when it comes to IPC performance as the Cortex X5 core beats the Qualcomm Nuvia CPU cores and the Apple A17 Pro (featured inside the Apple iPhone 15 Pro). The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is expected to utilize Nuvia-designed CPU cores. Unfortunately, besides the verbal anecdotes, DCS gives no IPC figures for the Dimensity 9400.
All in all, the Dimensity 9400 should present some real problems for Qualcomm if the leaks are true. There is no real competition in the Android space since Exynos is currently unable to compete with Qualcomm at the highest level. So, we certainly hope Dimensity 9400 is a banger of an SoC, as more competition is always better for the consumers.
