Leaks and rumors about the upcoming Nothing Phone (2a) are currently in full stream. But it seems not all of them are on the right track. First, we had alleged promotional images leak out, which were later disavowed by the leaker right after the company teased the phone. Now, the CEO of Nothing, Carl Pei, has denied the rumor about the phone’s SoC.
If you haven’t caught up with the series of past leaks, the upcoming mid-range Android smartphone was rumored to feature MediaTek Dimensity 7200. But Carl Pei has confirmed that it’s not the SoC Nothing chose for the Phone (2a).
Now, as far as the naming conventions go, the Phone (2a) is expected to be between the Phone (1) (available on Amazon) and Phone (2) (available on Amazon). These latter two came with the Snapdragon 778G+ and Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, respectively. Considering that the upcoming device is expected to sit between these two, the rumors about it packing Dimensity 7200 did make sense.
But after Carl Pei confirmed that the Nothing Phone (2a) isn’t powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200, we’re basically back to square one in terms of the smartphone’s SoC info. A couple of users on X (formerly Twitter) are now saying that there’s a possibility of the smartphone packing the Dimensity 7200 Ultra, while others are betting on a “customized chipset.”
The good news is that we don’t need to wait to see what SoC the Phone (2a) will feature and learn everything about the mid-range Android device because the phone is confirmed to launch on March 5. As a matter of fact, the info about the processor may even drop today.
