Several rumors have claimed that the Apple iPhone Fold will feature a rather unusual design. While the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 (from $1,599 on Amazon) is roughly the size of a conventional smartphone when folded, Apple is instead expected to use a significantly smaller 5.3-inch secondary display with a very wide 3:2 aspect ratio.
Ben Geskin has now used a 3D printer to create an iPhone Fold dummy with a 5.3-inch secondary display and a 7.7-inch main display, exactly as suggested by the latest rumors. As a direct comparison with the Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max shows, the iPhone Fold would be slightly wider but also significantly shorter when folded. Judging by the images, it could still be difficult to reach every part of the display with the thumb when the device is used one-handed.
When unfolded, users will almost certainly need both hands in order to use the iPhone Fold. As the comparison shows, the unfolded iPhone Fold offers significantly more screen real estate than the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Due to the aspect ratio, the difference is even bigger than the increase from 6.9 inches to 7.7 inches would suggest.
The Oppo Find N2 comes closest to the iPhone Fold with a 5.54-inch secondary display with 18:9 aspect ratio and a 7.1-inch main display, but when unfolded it offers noticeably less screen real estate. Meanwhile, the Oppo Find N5 has a 6.62-inch secondary display with a 21:9 aspect ratio and an 8.12-inch main display, which more closely matches the current foldable standard and appears downright gigantic compared to the iPhone Fold dummy.
The Apple iPhone Fold is expected to be officially unveiled in September 2026. As usual, rumors should be treated with caution until then, as Apple’s plans could still change.
