Apple has fixed a long-standing Siri limitation on the Apple Watch. In watchOS 27 beta 3, users can now ask Siri to add time to a timer that is already running. Previous versions required restating the full duration from scratch. The update also brings Apple's upgraded Siri AI experience and a dedicated Siri app to the watch for the first time.

Apple is finally fixing a long-standing gap in the Apple Watch's Siri timer feature. As reported by Macworld, watchOS 27 beta 3 adds the ability to extend a running timer directly through Siri, ending years of users having to restate the full duration from scratch.

Previously, Apple Watch users could set or cancel a timer using Siri but could not add time to one already counting down. Asking Siri to add two minutes to a running timer would prompt it to ask for a new total duration instead, forcing users to check the remaining time and calculate the new figure themselves.

With watchOS 27 beta 3, this issue has been solved. If a timer has 4 minutes and 42 seconds left and a user asks Siri to add 2 minutes, the watch now updates the countdown directly to 6 minutes and 42 seconds and continues running, rather than requiring the timer to be reset.

watchOS 27 beta 3 also brings Apple's upgraded Siri AI experience, first previewed at WWDC in June, to the wrist for the first time, along with a dedicated Siri app placed at the centre of the watch's Dynamic App Grid. The feature had been announced for Apple Watch alongside iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision Pro, but did not appear in the first two watchOS 27 developer beta builds.

Because Siri AI on the Apple Watch depends on a nearby Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhone to process requests, response times remain slower than on the iPhone itself. According to the outlet, Siri's reply speed on the watch is still inconsistent in this beta, and the timer display has a formatting glitch on some watch faces.

watchOS 27 and its new Siri features are limited to the Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Ultra 2, Apple Watch SE 3, and newer models. The developer beta is available now to registered developers with a supported watch and an Apple Intelligence-ready iPhone. Apple is expected to release the public beta later this month, with the full version of watchOS 27 shipping alongside iOS 27 later this year.
