Apple Watch to receive sensor upgrade and new features with watchOS 27

The Apple Watch Series 11 ($299 on Amazon) and the Apple Watch Ultra 3 have only received minor hardware upgrades and no major design changes. The Apple Watch Series 12, which is expected to be officially launched in September, will again only receive minor hardware changes. However, rumors have recently hinted that the Apple Watch Ultra 4 will receive a completely revised design and improved sensors.
Now Bloomberg reports that these sensor improvements may not be enabled by new hardware, but by watchOS 27, so older Apple Watches could also benefit. The report does not reveal any further details on how exactly the heart rate measurement will be improved by watchOS 27, but a picture is slowly emerging of what new features users of a Apple Watch can expect from the next major operating system update. The update is set to include a modular watch face based on "Modular Ultra", which is not only available on the Apple Watch Ultra, but also on the smaller Apple Watch.
This gives users another option for a watch face with numerous complications. watchOS 27 is intended to improve performance and stability and enable the Apple Watch Ultra 3 to access Apple Maps and to send and receive photos via a satellite network, instead of only supporting emergency calls and text messages as before. Finally, new AI features are expected, although it is still unclear whether the new Siri chatbot app will also be available on Apple's smartwatch, or whether this will be reserved for the iPhone and iPad for the time being.
