Xiaomi Mix Flip touted to outdo Mix Fold 4 in terms of sales and popularity
The renowned leaker Digital Chat Station claims to have learned that about 200,000 units of a "certain" clamshell foldable are now in use in China, following shipments that have risen far above the expectations set for it.
Its fortunes to date are compared favorably to a "large" (or book-style) folding counterpart from the same "factory", thereby suggesting that the former is the Mix Flip and the latter Xiaomi's fourth-gen Mix Fold (which is, apparently, a "dud" that might now not be renewed, whereas its new clamshell sibling might need another production run to meet demand).
The Mix Flip is only Xiaomi's first foray into its market, yet manages to hit some of its best notes even compared to the much more familiar Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6, a 120Hz cover display, larger battery and dual 50MP rear cameras (that are Leica-branded to boot) included.
Its cover display is also the same size as that of the Motorola Razr+ 2024, which would lead the field in this respect otherwise, and is driven by the more powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. On the other hand, it supports a 120Hz refresh rate in both displays compared to 165Hz in the new Razr+.
The Mix Flip also fails to integrate wireless charging, whereas its more established rivals support the feature. Nevertheless, it might be able to cut into the market share of both devices on its impending release to the rest of the world.
In the meantime, the first-gen smartphone is available to buy via re-sellers such as TradingShenzhen, starting at €857 (~$957) right now.
