The Razr 50 flip smartphone still looks very pretty and offers many unusual features while not being very expensive. In this summary of our test results, we tell you why we are still not completely convinced.

What makes the Motorola Razr 50 so great is its flexibility: A stable hinge and foldable display allow you to hold it like a camcorder, for example, and with its two screens, both the photographer and the photographed can see what is getting recorded.

The case offers an elegant design again, being slim and covered with artificial leather. Compared to the Razr 40 from last year, the storage has not increased, and in Europe, we have to be content with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage. Motorola is asking for 899 Euros for it ($699 in the US called "Motorola Razr 2024"), but you can also already get the smartphone for less than that. While this is really reasonable for a flip phone, the equipment of the Razr 50 turned out a bit spartan: There is only a USB 2.0 connection, the storage is fairly slow, the camera system merely mediocre, and the processor doesn't offer more power than that of its processor. At least there is wireless charging, eSIM support, and finally also a waterproof case.

The problem with the whole package comes with a clear name: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 5G. At this point, Samsung's flip phone has dropped its price enough to be more affordable than the Razr (in Germany), even though it offers a high-end processor, better cameras, and faster connections. In addition, you can also get more affordable flip phones such as the Nubia Flip, which doesn't offer much less than the Motorola Razr 50.

With such powerful competitors, should you still take a look at the Motorola flip phone? Sure, since it offers two great displays, with a really bright inside display. HDR content even looks great on the external display that is now significantly larger. You can now perform many tasks without having to flip open the phone. The crease of the opened display inside is hardly noticeable by the fingers anymore, and the SoC hardly throttles under load.

Even though the speakers don't get particularly loud, their sound is overall convincing.
