Galaxy Unpacked | Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6: Hands-on with Samsung's Motorola Razr 50 Ultra rival
In recent years, Samsung has enjoyed almost complete dominance of the clamshell foldable market outside China. For example, while the Galaxy Z Flip5 (curr. $580.96 - renewed on Amazon) has been sold by retailers alongside the Razr 40 Ultra, the former was significantly more powerful because of the latter's reliance on an older chipset.
This year though, Motorola has released the Razr 50 Ultra with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 series chipset. By contrast, the Galaxy Z Flip6 has now arrived with the nominally more powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, which it complements with a 4,000 mAh battery. Thus, not only will the Galaxy Z Flip6 be more powerful than its predecessor, but it should also achieve longer runtimes thanks to an 8% larger combined battery capacity.
Moreover, Samsung has upgraded the Galaxy Z Flip to a 50 MP primary camera, likely the same sensor used in the Galaxy S24. The 10 MP front-facing and 12 MP ultra-wide-angle cameras remain though, as do last year's cover and foldable displays. Likewise, the Galaxy Z Flip still weighs roughly 187 g and measures 165.1 x 71.5 x 6.9 mm or 85.1 x 71.5 x 14.9 mm in its folded state.
Unfortunately, limitations like no Samsung DeX support remain, as does the inability to open unapproved apps on the cover display without resorting to tweaking with Samsung's Good Lock customisation service. The Galaxy Z Flip6 is orderable from today in multiple colour options, which we have shown below. At launch, Samsung offers its latest clamshell foldable with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB or 512 GB of storage for €1,199 and €1,319, respectively.
