Those opting for a foldable smartphone will have to accept compromises when it comes to the camera system. A detailed analysis by DxOMark now shows that although the Galaxy Z Flip6 has better cameras than its predecessor, it is not entirely without flaws.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 has been given a new 50 MP f/1.8 main camera with PDAF and optical image stabilization (OIS), which is accompanied by a 12 MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera as before. According to a detailed camera analysis by DxOMark, this change definitely pays off, as the new flip phone scores 132 points, putting it five points ahead of the Galaxy Z Flip5.

This is enough for 54th place on the best list, putting the device just one point behind the Galaxy Z Fold6. With this result, the Galaxy Z Flip6 narrowly outperforms slightly older flagships such as the Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and the Huawei P40 Pro, while the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra remains at the top of the leaderboard with 163 points.

Samsung gets a lot of things right, as the dual camera of the Galaxy Z Flip6 captures photos with a wide dynamic range and mostly accurate exposure, photos and videos are comparatively detailed in daylight, and the video stabilization is also impressive. However, users should keep a few weaknesses of the camera system in mind.

In particular, portrait mode does not always calculate the depth of field correctly, which can make photos appear unnatural. The small sensors produce visible image noise in low light. The white balance does not always work correctly, which can give photos and videos a color cast. Lastly, the autofocus is not reliable in all situations.
