Google has now opened pre-orders for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, its second-generation foldable. Arriving alongside a slew of other new Pixel devices, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is 10.5 mm thick, has a 5x telephoto camera and a pair of 120 Hz displays, among other features.

Google has now released the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, one of four Pixel 9 smartphones that it has announced today. Arguably, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold contains the biggest generational changes of the four compared to its predecessor, thanks to an overhauled design. Also, Google has moved from the Tensor G2 in the Pixel Fold (curr. $1,750 on Amazon) to the Tensor G4 this time round, aligning its foldable smartphones with its other flagships.

According to Google, it has paired its new chipset with 16 GB of RAM and a 4,650 mAh battery. Unfortunately, while the company's product page implies that the device supports 45 W wired charging, small print confirms that it peaks at just 21 W. Nonetheless, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is thinner and lighter than its predecessor at 10.5 mm unfolded and 257 g. For reference, Google's latest foldable measures as follows in its folded and unfolded states:

  • Folded: 155.2 mm (height) x 77.1 mm (width) x 10.5 mm (depth)
  • Unfolded: 155.2 mm (height) x 150.2 mm (width) x 5.1 mm (depth)

Moreover, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold features a 6.3-inch cover display that outputs at 120 Hz, 1080p and with 2,700 nits peak brightness. By contrast, its foldable display spans 8-inches and has a 2,076 x 2,152-pixel resolution, as well as 2,700 nits peak brightness like the cover display. Please note that while both displays peak at 120 Hz, only the foldable panel supports 1-120 Hz variable refresh rates. Furthermore, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold ships with the following cameras:

  • Primary: 48 MP, f/1.7 aperture, 82° FoV, 1/2-inch sensor
  • Ultra-wide: 10.5 MP, f/2.2 aperture, 127° FoV, 1/3.4-inch sensor
  • Telephoto: 10.8 MP, f/3.1 aperture, 23° FoV, 1/3.2-inch sensor, 5x optical zoom
  • Front camera: 10 MP, f/2.2 aperture, 87° FoV
  • Inner camera: 110 MP, f/2.2 aperture, 87° FoV

While the company has only just announced its second-generation foldable, it has already opened pre-orders for the device globally with prices set at $1,799 and $1,999 in the US for 256 GB and 512 GB storage variants. As expected, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold comes with launch offers in some markets. For example, Google will offer $350 in Google Store credit when purchasing the device through its retail platform before September 7. However, other markets are able to purchase 512 GB SKUs for the price of 256 GB versions. Please see Google's product page for more information.
