Major camera upgrade headed to rumoured Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 Ultra smartphone

Various details about the long-rumoured Galaxy Z Fold6 Ultra have surfaced in the last few months. Most recently, a South Korean source alleged that the device is approximately 10 mm thick, a 17% and 12.1 mm reduction on the existing Galaxy Z Fold6 (curr. $1,639.99 - 512 GB on Amazon). Additionally, the same source reported that the Galaxy Z Fold6 Ultra will officially land in roughly a month's time, precise details of which we have covered separately.

Now, the well-respected GalaxyClub has chimed in on the state of changes between the Galaxy Z Fold and its 'Ultra' counterpart. Reportedly, Samsung is heading in a new direction when it comes to under-display camera (UDC) hardware. For context, the company has equipped all Galaxy Z Fold handsets with the same 4 MP and f/1.8 UDC camera from the Galaxy Z Fold3 onwards.

While this is also true of the Galaxy Z Fold6, the Galaxy Z Fold6 Ultra is expected to showcase a new 5 MP camera. Although a 25% resolution increase does not sound like much, we suspect that the adoption of a new sensor will coincide with other improvements like a newer lens structure or an AMOLED panel with a less noticeable UDC. Unfortunately, it still remains to be seen what the Galaxy Z Fold6 Ultra actually looks like, other than rumours suggesting it will be much wider and thinner than its non-Ultra sibling.
