Before we turn our attention to the successor to the Galaxy Z Flip5 (available here at Amazon), a brief word about the Galaxy Z Fold6, which is likely to be unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked Events on July 10, 2024, and is expected to offer a slightly wider cover display than its predecessors. It has now been spotted for the first time in Geekbench's benchmark database under the US model number SM-F956U. As expected, it is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and 12 GB RAM, but this does not necessarily mean that Samsung's high-end foldable will also be launched in Europe with Snapdragon instead of Exynos.
Galaxy Z Flip 6 with thicker, ultra-thin glass
The upcoming model of the stylish flip phone from South Korea has already been spotted on Geekbench in the past, but there is also new information about the Galaxy Z Flip6. According to Korean news magazine TheElec and its industry sources, Samsung will cover the flexible AMOLED panel with a thicker, ultra-thin glass layer (UTG). Instead of 30 micrometers, the glass layer will be 50 micrometers thin.
This should confer two advantages. Firstly, it will increase the resistance of the foldable display. Secondly, the previously quite pronounced, annoying crease in the middle will be less visible, according to the report. In addition, the Galaxy Z Flip6 display will reportedly have similar brightness levels to its Chinese competitors, but the hinge will not change compared to its predecessor.
