Galaxy Z Fold 6 has a paint problem: Samsung warns against cheap chargers and EMS devices
The current discussion surrounding the quality of Samsung's high-quality mobile devices, specifically the Galaxy Z Fold 6 (just under $1700 at Amazon), is reminiscent of the infamous statement made by Apple founder Steve Jobs about the iPhone 4's antenna problem in 2010. Back then, the user holding the iPhone incorrectly was to blame; in the case of peeling paint, which many a Reddit user has criticized in regard to the Samsung foldable (see Reddit or the pictures below), the official response from the South Korean tech giant implies that the user is using the wrong chargers.
Specifically, Samsung explains on help pages such as this one that the electric current flowing back into the phone via inadequately earthed power adapters may be responsible for the paint peeling off. Consequently, the manufacturer recommends using either the official Samsung chargers or high-quality third-party products. One graphic illustrates this effect, while a second graphic mentions mobile EMS devices as a second potential culprit. These are used for muscle stimulation and can have a similar effect on Galaxy phones if the phone is held during treatment.
Doubts about official explanation
It goes without saying that the use of cheap, poor-quality chargers is not recommended for many reasons. Nevertheless, some in the community find the explanation unacceptable. Not only is Samsung one of the manufacturers that no longer includes a free charger- some suspect that potential quality defects are being passed on to the customer, especially since many more smartphones would otherwise be affected by the peeling paint problem.
