For years, hints of cheaper Lite versions of Samsung's foldables have been popping up in the rumor mill with regularity, but have never materialized in the form of an actual Fan Edition model. This year, certain voices from industry circles have been particularly loud on the subject of entry-level foldables. Countless reports from South Korea and several leakers have repeatedly commented on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE - Samsung is said to have been working intensively more than ever before on a slimmed-down but cheaper Galaxy Z Fold model this year.
However, this will not land in stores in 2024, at least not according to the latest information from industry representatives (via ETNews) on the one hand and a typically reliable leaker on the other. The report from South Korea mentions that Samsung is currently re-evaluating its original plans after the entry-level foldable, planned as the Galaxy Z Fold FE, proved to be no thinner than the Chinese competition despite the lack of a digitizer for the S Pen. The leaker, for his part, simply states that the device "is cancelled".
In other words, due to uncertain market conditions and the lack of unique selling points compared to the competition, Samsung has cancelled development before the mass production planned for May. Accordingly, the report assumes that only the well-known foldable duo will be launched in July, namely the successor to the Galaxy Z Fold5 on the one hand and the Galaxy Z Flip6 on the other. Competing companies also appear to be withdrawing a little from the foldable market this year, as leakers have increasingly emphasized of late. The first upcoming smartphone foldables are expected from Xiaomi and Honor.
