Camera comparison between Samsung Galaxy Z Fold SE and Galaxy Z Fold 6 yields unexpected results
Those currently looking for a tablet-style foldable will probably think of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 first, unless you want to consider the globally available and much thinner alternatives from competitors Honor and Google. On the other hand, another possibility is to import the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition from South Korea or the Samsung W25 from China, which, apart from the lack of S-Pen compatibility, are currently considered the best Samsung foldables in the world.
This is in part due to the improved cameras, most notably the 200 MP sensor, which replaces the time-honored 50 MP sensor in the main camera of the last Galaxy Z Fold generations and may also make its way to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in 2025. But there is another hardware difference in the triple cam of the two siblings. While the 3x telephoto is the same in both foldables, the special edition has a macro-capable 12 MP ultra-wide-angle shooter, while the Galaxy Z Fold 6 does not.
The Galaxy Z Fold SE wins in almost all cases in a direct comparison
Macro shots like the one in the picture above are only possible with the Special Edition, and the comparison video below from SamMobile also reveals that the Dual Pixel-capable sensor behind the ultra-wide angle delivers better, sharper shots across the board. The same also applies when comparing the two main cameras, which is where the biggest hardware difference between the two foldable cameras lies.
Interestingly, fewer differences appear in night shots, which is somewhat unexpected given the larger sensor. In daylight, however, the 200 MP sensor delivers sharper photos for the most part, and the difference is all the more visible at 2x zoom level, where the 50 or 200 MP photo is cropped. The smallest differences can be seen in the identical 3x telephotos and video recordings.
