Huawei has presented its second foldable smartphone of the year after releasing the Mate XT at the end of the summer. This time, the company has returned to a conventional book-style foldable form factor with the Mate X6, which replaces the Mate X5 that arrived over a year ago.
Ultimately, the Magic V3 retains the crown of being the thinnest and lightest foldable around. However, the Mate X6 surpasses the Galaxy Z Fold6, OnePlus Open and Pixel 9 Pro Fold (curr. $1,499 on Amazon) in this regard with a 4.6 mm thickness when unfolded, a 9.85~9.9 mm thickness when closed and a 239 g weight. Moreover, Huawei has included a 5,110 mAh battery that supports 50 W wireless and 66 W wired charging.
Meanwhile, Huawei has included a 6.45-inch LTPO AMOLED cover display that outputs at 1080p with a 1-120 Hz refresh rate and 2,500 nits peak brightness. By contrast, the Mate X6's internal display spans 7.93-inches across while offering the same refresh rate and a 2,440 x 2,240-pixel native resolution but only 1,800 nits peak brightness.
Furthermore, Huawei has installed a 50 MP primary camera with an f/1.4-f/4.0 aperture just like the Mate 70 series. Similarly, the Mate X6 has 48 MP telephoto and 40 MP ultra-wide-angle cameras, as well as 8 MP front-facing cameras on each display. As with the Mate 70 series, there is no word yet on international availability. For reference, the Mate X6 starts at CNY 12,999 (~$1,793) in China with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage but rises to CNY 15,999 (~$2,207) with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage pre-installed.
