Just yesterday, Ross Young reported that the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 will be launching with larger displays than this year's Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 (curr. $717.95 - renewed on Amazon). Additionally, a Galaxy Z Flip FE is also expected to debut in 2025. By contrast, Samsung's first tri-fold may not land until 2026 at the earliest.
Now, Young has commented on the state of future Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition development. For context, the first Special Edition has a 0.2-inch larger cover display than the Galaxy Z Fold6. Additionally, this gap extends to 0.4-inches when moving to their internal displays.
As a result, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition has an 8-inch foldable display, albeit with a lower pixel density than the Galaxy Z Fold6. Moreover, the former is noticeably thinner than the latter with a housing that is just 0.1 mm thicker than the Pixel 9 Pro Fold when closed.
Unfortunately, Samsung only offers the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition in South Korea and the same device as the Samsung W25 in China. Nonetheless, Young asserted only last month that a second-generation Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition was in the works with broadly the same design as its predecessor.
However, the same source suggests that is no longer the case. Allegedly, Young has since learned that there will be no new Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition at all, which he refers to as the Galaxy Z Fold7 FE. Seemingly, the planned changes headed to the Galaxy Z Fold7 render a new Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition unnecessary. In other words, the next regular Galaxy Z Fold should be enough of a design upgrade to replace not just the Galaxy Z Fold6, but also the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.
