Nubia Flip 2: Next-generation ZTE foldable surfaces with design updates and hardware upgrades
The foldable smartphone market remains an expensive endeavour for the most part. Arguably, no affordable book-style foldable exists yet, let alone its nascent 'tri-fold' rival. Instead, manufacturers like ZTE have sought to push the price of clamshell foldables down with releases like the Nubia Flip. The same is true of Motorola and the Razr 50 (curr. $424.98 on Amazon), although it costs more than the Nubia Flip in most markets.
While ZTE released the Nubia Flip in April, it seems that the company already has a second-generation model at an advanced stage of development. To that end, several regulatory bodies have now certified the so-called Nubia Flip 2 in China. Based on what has surfaced so far about the device, it seems that ZTE intends to offer its second-generation Nubia Flip with a reworked design.
On the one hand, the Nubia Flip 2 is said to weigh 193 g, which would be about 20 g lighter than its predecessor. Nonetheless, it may well retain the Nubia Flip's 6.85-inch AMOLED display that outputs at 2,790 x 1,118 pixels with a 120 Hz refresh rate. Likewise, its reported dimensions of 169.4 x 76 x 7.2 mm are only marginally different to those of the Nubia Flip.

On the other hand, the TENAA reveals that the Nubia Flip 2 has a 3-inch cover display, which would be roughly twice the size of the version offered in this year's model. Moreover, the newer Nubia Flip adopts a tall rectangular format with a 682 x 422-pixel resolution, much like Oppo's Find N2 Flip and Find N3 Flip. However, it seems that ZTE has only changed the internal camera between generations, which grows from 16 MP to 32 MP.
Unfortunately, many other details remain unknown for now, including the chipset underpinning the device. With that being said, certification documents appear to confirm the presence of a 4,225 mAh battery complemented by 6 GB, 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM. Incidentally, ZTE has only just released the Nubia Z70 Ultra globally, launch details for which we have covered separately.
