Huawei confirms launch date for its tri-fold smartphone
It is an open secret that Huawei wants to launch the world's first (or second, if you count Tecno) tri-folding smartphone. Multiple real-world images of the phone have been leaked, likely on purpose, to build up hype. Now, the company has just confirmed a launch date.
The phone will be shown off via an event in China on September 9 (14:30 local time). Incidentally, this is the same time Apple plans to unveil the iPhone 16 lineup. Huawei's timing doesn't seem to be a coincidence and is is clear the company wants to steal some of Apple's thunder, at least in the domestic market.
Unfortunately, the innards of Huawei's first tri-fold phone have been a closely guarded secret. Its camera modules are standard Huawei fare, complete with a circular design and a noticeably thick housing. Under the hood, one can expect it to run a Kirin chip, likely the Kirin 9010 or a sub-variants. Alternatively, it could also show off the supposedly 5 nm Kirin 9100 that is said to perform on par with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
