Huawei’s first tri-foldable surpasses 1.7 million reservations even before its official launch
Huawei's upcoming Mate XT smartphone is already generating a lot of hype. The proof lies in the staggering 1.7 million+ reservations logged on VMall (Huawei's e-commerce platform) at the time of writing. As the world's first tri-folding smartphone (second, if you count the Tecno Phantom Ultimate 2 concept), it's no wonder people are eager to secure one. The website details that reservations will be open until September 19. There are two color options available, namely dark black and 'Ruihong', which resembles a crimson hue, as well as two storage options, 16GB/512GB and 16GB/1TB.

The Mate XT, set to officially debut on September 10, is unique not just because of its tri-fold mechanism or the massive 10-inch display, but also due to its sleek form factor. The device's camera system further bears a striking resemblance to the Mate 60 RS's camera module, which has solid specs on paper — two 48 MP primary and telephoto sensors, and a 40 MP ultra-wide-angle sensor. The Mate XT will likely feature even better camera specs. Although it remains uncertain whether the former will feature three or four cameras, it is certain that Huawei is positioning this device as a tool for videographers in the teaser.
The teaser itself had a pretty cinematic feel to it, depicting some sort of leather finish on the device's back. The company branding and the text “Ultimate Design” are clearly visible as well. Furthermore, a Huawei smart ring is also speculated, which could accompany the Mate XT.
With so many people reserving the Mate XT before its official release, there is no doubt that Huawei has captured a lot of attention. The excitement surrounding this launch also points to the growing interest in cutting-edge, foldable mobile devices. If this teaser is anything to go by, the Mate XT may deliver on those expectations, considering Chinese brands like Vivo and Honor's foldables have delivered impressive performance in the recent past. In our review, Vivo's X Fold3 got an 89% rating, and the Honor Magic V3, which was just announced on September 5, got an 86% score. Refer to our review video for the aforementioned Honor device below.
