More durable Huawei Mate XT2 with stylus and up to 2 TB of storage. Video shows three colors
Last weekend in August brought us the first teasers and a launch date for Huawei’s third tri-foldable device, where the Chinese company is now switching to the U-format used by Samsung in the Galaxy Z TriFold instead of the previously used Z-form factor. It features an approximately 10-inch tablet display that folds inward twice, along with an additional cover display on the outside.
This results in a design that should be more robust in daily life, as the flexible AMOLED panel is now fully protected when folded. In a video, Huawei also demonstrates some of the testing procedures of the Mate XT2. In addition to drop tests, the new tri-foldable is also subjected to water pressure. Apparently Huawei wants to allay any durability concerns ahead of the launch event, although the usual vulnerabilities of foldable devices such as dust and dirt or a flex display that’s prone to scratches will likely remain an issue.
Second promo video shows all three color options
A second promotional video can also be found on Huawei’s official Weibo page today, in which not only the main purple model but two other color variants are also introduced for the first time. Both feature gold bezels and a back in either dark black or light white/beige.
Storage configurations in the Huawei Store
You can also reserve your desired Mate XT2 configuration in the Chinese Huawei online store (Huawei Vmall). In addition to the three color options, storage variants include 16/512 GB, 16GB/1TB, and 16/1TB with privacy protection, as well. Exclusively for the purple color option a high-end configuration featuring an integrated stylus, a privacy display, 16 GB of RAM, and 2 TB of storage exists. It’s easy to imagine how expensive that will be given current storage prices. While no availability date has been announced for the latter option yet, the standard storage options are scheduled to ship no later than October 31, so not immediately after launch apparently, which will take place on September 7th.
