The Huawei Mate XT has been accounted "the coolest phone in the world" of right now on the infamous YouTube channel JerryRigEverything due to its world-first tri-foldable design. However, that same groundbreaking build comes with drawbacks, not the least of which concerns just how easy it is to damage the new ~$3,000 device.

Scratch, burn and bend tests might be excruciating enough when carried out on the average foldable smartphones of today, but might be all the more so when the device in question costs the equivalent of ~$2,800 - or closer to ~$5,000 when imported.

Nevertheless, Zach Nelson did not relent when faced with what might be the most wince-inducing JerryRigEverything video to date.

The clip starts out with some interesting details on the Huawei Mate XT, such as that it comes in an unusually large box with a lot in it, a pair of FreeBuds 5 (currently valued at $153.99 on Amazon) and a car charger rated at a super-fast 88 watts (W) included.

However, that could not shield the XT's trail-blazing 10.2-inch 3K 90Hz display from its own fragility, succumbing to a Venom-like spreading defect not even from the traditional Mohs picks, lighters and razor-blades but to a relatively mild impact from the butt of a knife-handle.

Despite that, Nelson found the device surprisingly resistant to the shower of dirt and grit to which foldable smartphones are now subjected on his notorious YouTube channel. In addition, it seems it is relatively easy to take the ground-breaking device apart - it is just a shame it might already be broken at that point.
