Huawei broke new ground with the world's first market-ready tri-folding smartphone in September 2024: a testament to how far the mobile device industry has come and how fast it can move (when it wants to). Then again, we are now into the 2nd quarter of 2025 and no rival for the Mate XT has yet emerged.
The famous leaker Digital Chat Station has just reiterated that one company is about to produce one, however, in the form of the first-gen "Samsung Galaxy G Fold".
It may or may not have a form-factor similar to that of the Mate XT, although its main screen is now forecast to be 9.9 inches in diagonal length, compared to 10.2 inches in its Huawei counterpart.
In any case, Samsung is also now thought to tout the "Galaxy G Fold" as an exceptionally niche device with very limited availability - which, given that the Mate XT is now estimated to have sold about 420,000 units thus far in 2025 in its native China, compared to ~1 million for its more traditional Mate X6 sibling, might not be all that surprising.
Digital Chat Station asserts nonetheless that the "G Fold" will be released later in 2025, alongside more conventional foldables such as the Galaxy Z Fold7 and the Galaxy Z Flip7 - not to mention the inaugural, potentially more affordable, FE version of the latter.
