The goalposts have moved again when it comes to the dimensions of Samsung's next book-style foldable. Initially, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition was believed to be the test bed for the Galaxy Z Fold7, with its 4.9 mm and 10.6 mm thicknesses in its opened and closed states, respectively.
Shortly afterwards, rumours then emerged that Samsung had managed to shave 0.4 mm off each side to create a housing that measured 9.5 mm in its closed state. Just over a week ago, Techmaniacs asserted that these dimensions were inaccurate too. Instead, it claimed that the Galaxy Z Fold7 would be only 8.2 mm thick when closed in a change that would see Samsung's latest book-style foldable undercutting the Oppo Find N5 by 0.7 mm.
According to Ice Universe, all of the above is inaccurate. Apparently, the Galaxy Z Fold7 will come in at 8.9 mm to match the Find N5. However, the leaker adds that the Galaxy Z Fold7 will be just 3.9 mm thick when opened compared to 4.2 mm for the Find N5. To achieve these two dimensions, Samsung would need to include bumpers that measure roughly 0.55 mm on either side; the equivalents in the Galaxy Z Fold6 are 0.45 mm thick.
Regardless, an overall thickness of 8.9 mm would mean that the Galaxy Z Fold7 is over 26% thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold6 in its closed state (curr. $1,249 on Amazon). There would be a 30% drop between generations when opened too, although PandaFlashPro believes that the Galaxy Z Fold7 will look thicker than the Find N5 because of its boxier design language. Unfortunately, Ice Universe reiterates that Samsung will include just a 4,400 mAh battery inside its next-generation foldable, which should be joined by a Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset.
