Honor's next-generation foldable smartphone has taken another step towards being released. Until now, there have only been rumours that the company was preparing a Magic V3 successor. While it is unclear under what name the device will arrive, recent 3C and MIIT listings suggest it will have a much larger battery capacity than the Magic V3 (curr. $1,690 on Amazon).
To recap, the Magic V3 debuted last July with a 5,150 mAh combined capacity. A 3% larger than the combined capacity of the Magic V2, the Magic V3 trailed the Vivo X Fold3 Pro by just over 10%. Similarly, the Oppo Find N5 has almost a 9% larger battery capacity than the Magic V3 while offering faster wired charging, too.
Based on the information revealed by the MIIT, Honor's next foldable could reshape expectations about foldable battery capacities. Specifically, the MIIT reports that the MBH-AN10 delivers a 5,950 mAh rated capacity split across 2,070 mAh and 3,880 mAh batteries. As a result, it seems that Honor will advertise its next foldable with a typical capacity that exceeds 6,000 mAh.
This larger battery capcity may not be joined by any charging speed improvements, though. Instead, the 3C suggests that the MBH-AN10 will carry over 66 W wired charging from early Magic V models. Currently, it is unclear whether Honor will choose the name Magic V4 or Magic V5. Although Chinese numerology suggests that Honor would avoid the former, it released the Magic4 series in 2022, as well as the Watch 4 and Watch GS 4 in subsequent years.
