More substantive information about a potential new foldable has turned up online courtesy of Yogesh Brar. To recap, there were suggestions at the end of last year that Vivo was preparing to introduce a successor to the X Fold3 Pro alongside an Apple Vision Pro alternative. Rumours also pointed toward Vivo moving away from the triple camera set-up offered in the X Fold3 and X Fold3 Pro.
With both those models now over a year old, it has high time that Vivo released successors. According to Brar, at least one model will receive a global release between June and September. Unfortunately, the leaker has not provided any indications about the series' presumed debut in China. However, a global launch may only apply to the X Fold5 and not Vivo's Pro variant as it did last year with the X Fold3 Pro.
Either way, Brar expects Vivo to deliver the standard X Fold5 with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 found in current foldable flagships like the Galaxy Z Fold6 (curr. $1,249 on Amazon). Arguably, this should come as little surprise considering that the X Fold3 lined up last year with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 coupled with a 5,500 mAh battery.
Apparently, the X Fold's battery is set to grow by 9% to 6,000 mAh. Meanwhile, 50 MP triple rear-facing and 32 MP selfie cameras will return, as will Zeiss optics and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. Brar adds that the X Fold5 will arrive with 6.3-inch and 8.3-inch cover displays too, which would indicate a form factor change from the X Fold3 and its 6.3-inch cover display that opens to an 8.03-inch inner panel.
