Various leakers have been delivering sporadic details about the Galaxy Z Fold7 in recent weeks. Now, OnLeaks has collaborated with Android Headlines to deliver an alleged first look at Samsung's next flagship foldable. Contrary to recent suggestions, the pair claim that the Galaxy Z Fold7 will be thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.
For context, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition measures 4.9 mm thick when opened and 10.6 mm when closed. In comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold6 comes in at 5.6 mm and 12.1 mm, respectively. As a result, the Special Edition is just over 12% thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold6 (curr. $1,549 on Amazon). The Special Edition is surpassed by the Honor Magic V3 and Oppo Find N5 when it comes to thinness, though.
The same is said to be true of the Galaxy Z Fold7, albeit by an even less extent than current Galaxy Z Fold models. According to OnLeaks and Android Headlines, Samsung has reduced the thickness of its next foldable to 4.5 mm in its open state and 'closer to 9 mm' when closed. While the pair have not shared a specific figure yet, they claim that the Galaxy Z Fold7 will reach 9.5 mm including its camera housing.
Either way, this would see the Galaxy Z Fold crack the 10 mm barrier for the first time. Dimensions of 158.4 x 143.1 mm would also mean that the Galaxy Z Fold7 is slightly taller and wider than the Special Edition, which comes in at 157.9 x 142.6 mm.
Allegedly, this will allow Samsung to install 6.5-inch cover and 8.2-inch foldable displays, too. Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Fold7 this summer alongside the Galaxy Z Flip7 and Galaxy Z Flip FE. The company's first tri-fold may not arrive until later this year, though.
