Samsung has been gradually modernising the design of its foldables in recent years. In the case of the Galaxy Z Flip, the series moved to containing a usable cover display in 2023 with the release of the Galaxy Z Flip5.
The Galaxy Z Flip5 also marked the first time that Samsung had managed to eliminate the gap that existed on earlier models when they were in their closed states. By contrast, Samsung focused on internal upgrades with the Galaxy Z Flip6, whether that be a new 50 MP camera or a larger combined battery capacity.
The Galaxy Z Flip6 carried over its predecessor's design in full though, albeit with an improved hinge structure to reduce its overall thickness by 0.2 mm to 14.9 mm. Therefore, one may have reasonably expected the Galaxy Z Flip to return with a new design this year.
If leaked renders images shared by Android Headlines and @OnLeaks are accurate, Samsung is planning a design overall of sorts with the Galaxy Z Flip7. Reportedly, the Galaxy Z Flip7 measures 166.6 x 75.2 x 6.9 mm dimensions, compared to 165.1 x 71.9 x 6.9 mm.
In other words, the Galaxy Z Flip7 is said to be 3.3 mm wider than its predecessor and about as wide as the Galaxy S25 Plus (curr. $1,019.99 on Amazon). Allegedly, the new design will allow Samsung to install 3.6-inch cover and 6.8-inch foldable displays, too. The Galaxy Z Flip7 is expected to launch this summer alongside the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip FE but not Samsung's first tri-fold smartphone.
