Samsung's tri-foldable smartphone design receives approval in the US as possible Huawei Mate XT rival
Only a few days have passed since we reported on Samsung holding off from introducing its first tri-foldable smartphone. In summary, the company wants to deliver the 'best' tri-fold rather than being the first to market as it was with the first Galaxy Fold.
As it turns out, Samsung has already filed a patent for such a device with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Ultimately, a patent is no guarantee that a company will introduce a retail model. However, the images contained below offer insights into Samsung's thinking.
Filed over three years ago but only just approved, the 25-page document goes into great detail about the concept and how it could work. In short, the device closely resembles Huawei's elected design for the Mate XT, which is expected to reach other markets in early 2025. Given that it remains unclear when Samsung will introduce a Mate XT competitor, its only alternatives are the Galaxy Z Fold6 (curr. $1,299.99 - renewed on Amazon) or the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition and Samsung W25 in some markets.
