Until now, Xiaomi has not been expected to augment its latest flagship smartphone series with a new Ultra model until early next year. However, it seems that a Xiaomi 14 Ultra (curr. $1,099 on Amazon) replacement may already be in an advanced stage of development. That is, if a new leak is of Xiaomi's next 'Ultra' smartphone is genuine.
To recap, leakers have been discussing what camera sensors Xiaomi will use in the Xiaomi 15 Ultra for some time. Reportedly, the company has settled on the Sony LYT-900 as the Xiaomi 15 Ultra's primary sensor, which delivers a 50 MP native resolution across a 1-inch type optical format with a 23 mm equivalent focal length. Seemingly, Xiaomi has placed this camera way off to the left on the Xiaomi 15 Ultra though, unlike this year's model.
As a result, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra has a rather lop-sided look, at least internally. Meanwhile, the long object above it should be the Samsung ISOCELL HP9, which will deliver a 100 mm equivalent focal length combined with a 1/1.4-inch optical format. Moreover, a secondary IMX858 telephoto camera sits beneath it, as does an ISOCELL JN5-backed ultra-wide-angle camera. Furthermore, a large wireless charging coil can be seen, as can a thick mid-frame.
The same image implies that Xiaomi will maintain its circular camera housing for another generation too. With that being said, the housing may bear a different look compared to the equivalent in the Xiaomi 14 Ultra on account of its repositioned sensors. Currently, Xiaomi will likely wait until Mobile World Congress 2025 (MWC 2025) before officially introducing the Xiaomi 15 Ultra globally. There is every chance that the device could debut sooner in China though, as has been the case with other recent Xiaomi flagships.
