Apple iPhone 16 lineup confirmed to offer 45W charging
The performance of Apple's new A18 and A18 Pro may dominate the headlines but the company also looks to have made a significant improvement on the just-unveiled iPhone 16 series, as it seems all four phones deliver faster charging than their predecessors. In China, at least.
As initially revealed by Chinese outlet WhyLab, all four iPhone 16 series models were certified with 45 W charging support in China, a significant upgrade from last year's models where the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus were limited to 20 W, with the Pro duo reaching 27 W.
Apple customer service in China has also seemingly confirmed that the new phones indeed support a maximum of 45 W charging, effectively matching Samsung in that regard, with the S25 Ultra also set to be limited to 45 W charging yet again.
Of course, much like with Samsung's devices, peak charging wattages are just one part of the story, with phones unlikely to charge at such wattages for extended periods. While the iPhone 16 series is yet to go on sale, reports from China claim they have been tested to sit around 38 W in standard conditions—making for a solid upgrade on last year's phones either way.
It remains to be seen if this feature is limited to Chinese models of the iPhone 16 series, as Apple has made no mention of any charging upgrades in its marketing material so far. We'll be sure to keep you updated.
