Apple has recently increased the out-of-warranty battery replacement fee for its iPhone 16 Pro models, now charging $119. This marks a 20% hike from the previous generation. The standard iPhone 16 models will keep the $99 replacement fee, and AppleCare+ users can still get free replacements if their battery's capacity drops below 80%.

Apple has recently introduced a new, higher fee for out-of-warranty battery replacements on its latest smartphones. According to the company's iPhone Repair & Service page, there has been a notable change for its iPhone 16 Pro models.

In the U.S., Apple Stores now charge $119 to replace the battery in the iPhone 16 Pro or iPhone 16 Pro Max. This is a 20% increase from the previous $99 fee for the iPhone 15 Pro series. This price includes both the new battery cost and the service performed by Apple. It's worth noting that prices may vary at authorized third-party service providers.

The standard iPhone 16 models, however, will maintain the existing $99 replacement fee. Users with AppleCare+ coverage will continue to receive battery replacements at no additional cost, but only if the battery's capacity falls below 80% of its original capacity.

This price hike for the Pro models may be linked to rumored new battery technology. According to Apple, all four iPhone 16 models feature larger batteries, with internal redesigns aimed at enhancing heat dissipation. These changes are intended to optimize the performance and longevity of the devices, especially under heavy use. There have been rumors suggesting that at least some of the iPhone 16 models may feature a metal enclosure around the battery, which could provide additional thermal management and structural stability. However, these details remain speculative for now, and teardowns will confirm details.

This isn't the first recent price hike for iPhone battery replacements. Apple had previously increased the fee from $69 to $99 starting with the iPhone 14 series, marking the second increase in a short span.

Here's a comparison of Apple's current battery replacement costs in the U.S.:

  • iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max — $119
  • iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus — $99
  • All iPhone 15 models — $99
  • All iPhone 14 models — $99
  • All iPhone 13 models — $89
  • All iPhone 12 models — $89
  • All iPhone 11 models — $89
  • iPhone X, XS, and XR — $89
  • All iPhone SE models, iPhone 8, and older — $69

The new iPhone 16 lineup is available for pre-order and will officially launch on Friday.
