Apple has officially launched the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, featuring the A18 chip, a new Camera Control button, and a 48MP Fusion camera alongside a 12MP wide-angle lens. The phones claim to offer improved battery life and performance, with pre-orders starting September 13.

Apple has officially announced the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, introducing key hardware updates with the new A18 chip. Both models come in two sizes—6.1 inches and 6.7 inches—with Super Retina XDR displays. They also feature aluminum designs and are available in black, white, pink, teal, and ultramarine shades. Furthermore, both devices are rated IP68 for water and dust resistance.

The iPhone 16 lineup comes with Apple Intelligence, first introduced in the iOS 18.1 beta. Apple placed strong emphasis on users' data security as they use AI for various day-to-day tasks. The A18 chip includes a 6‑core CPU with 2 performance and 4 efficiency cores, a 5‑core GPU, and a 16‑core Neural Engine. Apple also says the devices have larger batteries, supporting fast charging with MagSafe wireless charging up to 25W when used with a 30W adapter or higher. As covered previously, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will feature Wi-Fi 7, which is capable of up to 2.4 times the non-mobile-data speeds as those with 6/6E.

On the camera side, both phones feature a 48MP 'Fusion camera' which includes a 2x Telephoto option for optical zoom. This camera setup is complemented by a 12MP Ultra-Wide lens, which enables macro photography and wider shots.

One of the standout new features is the introduction of 'Camera Control'. The physical button allows users to quickly access the camera, take a photo, or start recording video with a single click. The button provides tactile feedback as well. Apple further stated that Camera Control will also be integrated with third-party apps, providing additional functionality for developers and users alike. In the future, the button will allow users to access additional features like object identification and faster access to real-time information about their surroundings.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus begin on September 13, with general availability starting September 20. Prices start at $799 for the iPhone 16 and $899 for the iPhone 16 Plus. Apple also launched the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max alongside, you can read more about their launch here.
