According to MacRumors, Apple has stopped signing the iPadOS 18 update for the M4 iPad Pro which means that users can no longer download it. The decision was made following complaints from some owners of the M4 iPad Pro that the update bricked their devices.
One user who posted his experience on Reddit said he successfully updated his iPad Pro to a version of iPadOS 17. However, during the installation of iPadOS 18, his device turned off and despite several attempts to get it to turn back on, he was unsuccessful. The device was taken to the Apple Store where it was confirmed that it was bricked.
While there are other users with a similar complaint (both the 11-inch and 13-inch models), there are others that have had no issues. A common trait among the latter group is that they skipped the iPadOS 17.7 update but updated it straight to iPadOS 18.
Nevertheless, since Apple has pulled the update, it is certain there is an issue. Once the issue has been fixed, we can expect the update to begin rolling out again to the M4 iPad Pro (curr. available on Amazon for $1,119).
