Apple's latest iPad Pro tablets contain various advantages over the competition, despite their 5 mm housings. Unfortunately, the presence of tandem OLED displays and powerful Apple M4 chipsets has not helped improved sales, according to an analyst familiar with the matter.

The iPad Pro still remains the only way to get your hands on an Apple M4 chipset, over five months after its debut in 11-inch and 13-inch variants (curr. $1,197 on Amazon). With that being said, recent leaks suggest that may not be true for long thanks to upcoming MacBook Pro refreshes with M4, M4 Pro and M4 Max chipsets.

The iPad Pro is also one of the few devices out there to be actively advertised as having a tandem OLED display, save for the Huawei MatePad Pro 12.2. Tandem OLED display panels are vastly more expensive than their non-tandem counterparts, which Ross Young now claims is suppressing iPad Pro 7th Gen sales.

Allegedly, while demand was strong during the pair's May launch, it has have dropped off in the months since. As a result, Apple has dropped production estimates by 30% from 10 million to 7 million. Supposedly, this reduction affects the 13-inch model more than its 11-inch counterpart, which start at $1,299 and $999 in the US, respectively. Unfortunately for Apple, these prices are said to be the root cause of worse-than-expected sales, perhaps unsurprising when one configures either model with more storage, a 5G modem, nano-textured glass or stylus and keyboard accessories.
