M4 MacBook Pro might feature more upgrades than previously thought along with a price bump
The recently surfaced unboxing videos of Apple's M4-powered MacBook Pro have left us with more questions than answers. The authenticity of the second video appears to be hard to dispute, and if it's the real deal, might signal a few major improvements that Apple's upcoming M4-powered MacBook Pro could boast.
Apple's current M3-powered 14-inch MacBook Pro features the same design and display as the higher-tier M3 Pro and M3 Max variants, but misses out on a few key areas. For starters, the base variant ships with just 8 GB of memory, instead of the 18 GB that is found on its more expensive siblings. The laptop also features only two Thunderbolt 4 ports, as opposed to the three found in the higher-tier variants.
This year, however, Apple seems to be all set to grant the base variant MacBook Pro a much-needed glow-up in terms of specifications. As illustrated in the unboxing videos as well as by previous rumors, the M4-powered MacBook Pro lineup will start at 16 GB of unified memory, up from the nefarious 8 GB. The video also shows that the upcoming base variant will feature an extra Thunderbolt 4 port, which is a huge win for expandability and might finally allow support for up to two external displays, similar to its higher-end peers.
That being said, Apple isn't exactly known for its generosity, so a price hike is likely brewing. According to recent reports, Apple is expected to unveil the notebooks sometime early next month. How the unreleased retail units made their way into Russian YouTuber's hands, is something that has left us scratching our heads.
