The Apple iPhone 16e has only been shipping for a few days and PBKreviews and REWA Technology have already been able to disassemble the cheapest iPhone model into its individual parts. And there is some positive news, because the iPhone 16e has a similar design to the more expensive iPhone 16.
Unlike many older iPhones, the mainboard is attached to the frame instead of the back. This means that the iPhone 16e can be opened from both the front and the back, depending on whether the display or other components (such as the battery) need to be replaced. This drastically simplifies some repairs. Apple also uses new adhesive for the iPhone 16e, which loses its adhesion when electrical voltage is applied at the intended spot.
This makes replacing the battery much easier since technicians no longer have to deal with adhesive tabs that can tear off during use. While the internal structure is similar between the iPhone 16e and the iPhone 16, Apple uses the space saved by dispensing with the ultra-wide-angle camera to install a larger battery with a capacity of 4,005 mAh. This offers a 12.4% higher capacity compared to the iPhone 16. Compared to the third-generation iPhone SE, the capacity has almost doubled.
Components on the back, including the Qi charging coil, the 48 MP main camera, the selfie camera, the speakers, the USB-C port and the Taptic Engine, can also be replaced without any major difficulties. Surprisingly, the display of the iPhone 16e also works on the iPhone 14, which suggests that Apple actually installs exactly the same panel for both smartphones. PBKreviews gives the iPhone 16e a repair rating of 7.5 out of 10 possible points.
