The Apple MacBook Air has always been the every man's laptop — the laptop you tell your mom and grandma to get when it's time to upgrade or when the old one finally succumbs to its wounds. Thanks to a new Amazon deal following the M4 update for the MacBook Air, the MacBook Air M3 has seen a substantial discount, making that recommendation even easier.
While the Amazon deal is active, the 15-inch MacBook Air M3 can be had for as little as $999, with the most expensive version coming in at $1,399 and discounts ranging between 18–23%. While it isn't the latest and greatest Apple has to offer, the MacBook Air M3 still delivers excellent performance, a crisp, bright display, and long battery life, all packed into a thin, lightweight all-metal chassis.
Apple MacBook Air 15 M3 Amazon discounted prices
While the aforementioned Amazon deal is decent, and the lowest price for the MacBook Air line-up on Amazon since the laptop launched, the M4 MacBook Air starts at just $200 more and available for pre-order on Amazon. You will need to wait until March 12 for that to launch, but if our performance testing of the Apple M3 and Apple M4 (10-core) are anything to go by, the M4 MacBook Air will deliver a noticeably faster experience than its predecessor.
In our testing, the 10-core M4 outperforms the 10-core M3 CPU by a healthy margin of up to 38% in some multi-core CPU benchmarks. The battle is closer in single-core performance, though, which is likely the more relevant figure. Performance benchmarks are only one part of the story, though.
In our review of the M3 MacBook Air 15, we praised it for its relatively high performance, especially given its fanless design, long battery life (nearly 17 hours in our WiFi web surfing test), and its bright, high-quality IPS display. That 15.6-inch, 2,880 × 1,864 pixel display features excellent colour reproduction, at 98.7% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space, and a reasonable 527-nit brightness. These results, along with the outstanding 1.4 delta-E measurement, make the MacBook Air a strong contender even for on-the-go photography and light video editing.
