Apple's Mac mini has long been the quiet workhorse of the Cupertino giant's desktop lineup - affordable, reliable, and boring. However, once the mini's 2024 overhaul hit the scene, the Mac mini quickly became one of the most talked-about products in Apple's arsenal. Powered by the M4 SoC, the Mac mini now packs excellent performance in a tiny enclosure, paired with a price tag that continues to be excitingly affordable - at least, by Apple's standards.

Thanks to an ongoing sale on Amazon, the Mac mini with 24 GB of memory and 512 GB of storage is now available with a $100 discount, bringing its price down to an all-time low of $899 on the platform. This variant packs twice the storage, and an extra 8 GB of memory than the entry-level $599 unit. There is no doubt that the $599 variant is an excellent package, but the lack of upgradeable memory and storage sure does make the higher-end variant a safer choice for the future.

Of course, there are some unofficial ways to increase the built-in storage. However, taking the Mac mini apart might not be everybody's cup of tea, and further complications down the road may arise if, say, Apple choses to lock down third-party storage modules through a future software update. Other aspects of the system leave very little room for complaint - the M4 Mac mini is plenty fast, quiet, and capable. The three Thunderbolt 4 ports on the back are accompanied by an HDMI 2.1 and gigabit ethernet, whereas the front of the device is populated by dual USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports and an audio jack.

The lack of Type-A ports and an SD card reader might be infuriating for some people, which is worth noting. Wireless networking is taken care of by Bluetooth 5.3 and WiFi 6E. All told, the M4 Mac mini is an excellent value for many people, albeit less so when the system is configured with more desirable specifications. Despite that, at its current all-time low price on Amazon, the M4 Mac mini with the 24 GB/ 512 GB config brings commendable value to the table.
