Apple has been on a product launching spree of late. Yesterday, we got a new iPad Air and garden variety iPad (11th-gen). After that, a new Mac Studio with a powerful M3 Ultra showed up, and now, we get the coveted M4 MacBook Air. While there is somewhat of a price cut, there are some shenanigans with the M4 variant found on each SKU.
For example, the 13-inch MacBook Air (starting price $999), comes with 256 GB storage, 16 GB RAM, a 10-core CPU and an 8-core GPU. You have to pay $1,199 for a 10-core GPU and the same specs. RAM maxes out at 32 GB and storage at 2 TB. Thankfully, the 15-inch MacBook Air (starting price $1,199) is a lot less convoluted. It comes with a 10-core GPU across the board, with the starting RAM and storage staying the same as its 13-inch counterpart.
Other M4 MacBook Air specs include a 12 MP webcam that sits on a very visible notch, a 66.5 Wh battery, two Thunderbolt 4.0 ports, a MagSafe charging port and a 3.5 mm audio jack. Plus, it can now output video to up to two 6K displays. Wi-Fi 7 continues to elude this generation of MacBook Air, and you're still stuck with Wi-Fi 6e. By default, you get a 35 Watt charging brick in the box, but you can upgrade it to 65 Watts (for a price, of course).
Pre-orders for the new MacBook Air start today on Apple's website in four colourways: Sky Blue (new), Silver, Starlight and Midnight. You can buy it from major retailers starting on March 12.
