It is no secret that Apple is on the verge of refreshing its MacBook Air lineup with new models. As it stands, the company offers its Apple M3 chipset with the MacBook Air 13 and MacBook Air 15 (curr. $1,099 on Amazon), which can be complemented by up to 24 GB of RAM (unified memory).
Recent benchmark leaks suggest that Apple M4 variants are on the horizon, albeit perhaps with not quite the same GPU performance as their Mac mini and MacBook Pro counterparts. Now, Mark Gurman has shed light on the whereabouts of the next MacBook Air 13 and MacBook Air 15, which were previously anticipated to land by the spring.
According to the analyst, Apple has settled on another March refresh, having switched from June releases last year. Once again, the MacBook Air is expected to return with an unchanged design for both its 13-inch and 15-inch variants. If our review of the new entry-level MacBook Pro 14 is anything to go by, the adoption of Apple M4 should extend battery life across both MacBook Air models by upwards of an hour in most scenarios.
A chipset change alone should also bring Thunderbolt 4 support to the MacBook Air platform, as well as 4K and 240 Hz monitor support when using Display Stream Compression (DSC). Moreover, the introduction of 32 GB unified memory variants could arrive this generation too, as could nanotexture glass options. Pricing and a specific release date remain unknown for now, though.
