While it is over two years old, the Apple MacBook Air 13 with the M2 chip remains a solid option for everyone except users who need a fair bit of power. The laptop rocks a suitably powerful chip in the M2 SoC, a high-resolution 2,560 x 1,664 IPS panel, and a low weight of 1.25 kg (2.68 lbs).
Moreover, Apple reduced the starting price of the MacBook Air 13 M2 from $1,199 to only $999 last year. Amazon has now dropped this $999 price further by a cool $250, resulting in the laptop attaining a price of $749 ($50 discount applied in the cart). This discounted price is the lowest price of the laptop to date and was first seen in November 2024 according to camelcamelcamel (linked at the end).
When it comes to specs, the Apple MacBook Air 13 M2 on sale packs an 8-core M2 chip with 8-core GPU cores, 16 GB of non-expandable memory, and 256 GB of storage. The low amount of non-upgradable storage is a real bummer. To somewhat mitigate this situation, you can connect an external SSD to the laptop thanks to two Thunderbolt 3 ports.
On the topic of ports, Apple only includes a MagSafe connector and a 3.5 mm jack in addition to the above-mentioned Thunderbolt connectors. So, if you need things like a Type-A and/or SD card reader, you’ll have to invest in a Type-C dock.
Aside from these minor inconveniences, the Apple MacBook Air 13 M2 is a well-balanced machine that will just work. The compact chassis, decently powerful M2 SoC, and the 13-inch IPS panel with its 500 nits of brightness and 100% DCI-P3 all combine to deliver an excellent daily driver. Moreover, you also get the staple MacBook Air features like no fan noise and long battery life.
So, if you can’t wait for the M4 refresh which Apple might show at its upcoming presentation and don’t need the extra performance of the M3 MacBook Air, the $749 MacBook Air 13 M2 is an easy recommendation.
