2025 will be an important year for Apple and is likely to lay the foundation for many new products in the coming years, such as foldable devices, smart home innovations or more affordable mixed reality headsets. According to Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman, virtually all products will at least get a partial redesign this year, with two prominent exceptions.

2025 will be an important year for Apple, according to Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman, who has been providing reliable information and mostly correct leaks about Apple's diverse product range for years. What we can expect in terms of iPhone, iPad and Mac in 2025 has already been subject to extensive discussion, but in Gurman's latest Power One Newsletter, the Bloomberg analyst not only gives a clear and concise summary of all Apple's plans, but also includes a few tidbits of new and exciting information.

2025 to kick off with a highlight

Chronologically, the Apple product year will begin with a milestone, namely the iPhone SE of 2025 (Codename V59), which, according to recent rumors, will not be called iPhone SE 4 or iPhone SE 2025 but rather iPhone 16E. Although Gurman does not comment on the name of the new "budget iPhone", he once again reaffirms a redesign on the basis of the iPhone 14 with Face ID and Apple Intelligence support. Its price is likely to rise slightly, but a heavily discounted iPhone SE 2022 may then attract new customers in certain emerging markets, which Apple may not be so happy about, according to the analyst.

MacBook Air M4 and iPad 11 in Q1

Also coming in the first quarter or shortly thereafter (but not in January) will be the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models, codenamed J713 and J715, which are already in production and will have the Apple M4 chip. Gurman expects that Apple will continue to offer the M2 MacBook Air models, but the current M3 MacBook Airs will be replaced by the new Apple laptops. Also expected around the same time are the new entry-level iPads (codenamed J481 and J482), which, equipped with the Apple A17 Pro and 8 GB RAM and support for Apple Intelligence, will be on par with the current iPad Mini.

New iPad Airs and Magic Keyboards

On the agenda for spring are two new iPad Magic Keyboards (R307 and R308) as well as new tablets from the iPad Air family, which will probably also get an upgrade to the Apple M4 since a launch with Apple M3 would make little sense. This would bring them closer to the professional iPad Pro tablets, which, according to Gurman, will not get an upgrade until the release of the Apple M5 in late 2025 or early 2026. Gurman has named four model numbers for the iPad Airs of 2025: J607, J608, J637 and J638.

Mac Studio possibly coming in H1/2025

A Mac Studio upgrade is planned for the first half of 2025, based on the M4 Max or M4 Ultra, which would catapult the Mac Studio back ahead of the Mac Mini and its M4 Pro chip. Gurman also mentions a new variant of the Mac Pro, although the roadmap for this is still somewhat unclear. The AirTags 2 (codenamed B589), which have been reported on several times now, are also likely to get a launch soon after the spring offensive. While new MacBook Pro M5 models could launch at the end of 2025, a major redesign is probably not planned until 2026 - the 20th anniversary of the MacBook Pro series.

September lineup with surprises

Things are expected to pick up again in Techtember, i.e., September, the month that is traditionally reserved for the iPhone and Apple Watch. This year could be full of surprises, as Gurman expects a redesign for both the Apple Watch SE and the iPhone 17 lineup. Although the analyst does not comment on the possibly horizontal camera design, he does highlight that Apple may well name the new, extremely thin iPhone 17 the "iPhone Air" or "iPhone 17 Air". This thin model, which, like the new iPhone SE, will also utilize Apple's first in-house modem and could go on to be a template for future Apple foldables since miniaturization and thinner components are a prerequisite here. Apple is expected to install the Apple A19 SoC into the iPhone 17 Air, and the extremely thin housing means that a sensor will probably have to suffice as the camera, similar to the iPhone SE.

Apple Watch 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3

While Gurman expects a "fresh new look" for the Apple Watch SE, which has not yet been outlined in detail, the Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 are likely to receive new hardware upgrades in the same housing. Accordingly, the Ultra Watch is expected to receive satellite connectivity and 5G RedCap network access, while both the Watch Series 11 and the Watch Ultra 3 will likely finally offer high blood pressure (hypertension) detection. In the medium to long term, according to Bloomberg, Apple will further expand the health features of its smartwatches and also implement an AI-based trainer.

HomePod mini, Apple TV, no Vision Pro 2

Futhermore, Gurman expects there will be various updates for products that have not been updated for a long time, such as the HomePod mini or the Apple TV Box, throughout the second half of the year. Things look less rosy for the (few) fans of the Apple Vision Pro, which does not appear to be getting a successor anytime soon. There are signs of a new second gen model in 2026 based on the Apple M5, but a cheaper, slimmed-down variant (codenamed N107) is more likely, according to the analyst. Smart glasses in the style of Ray-Ban Meta are also potentially on the horizon, but probably not until 2026.

Smart home: What about the smart AI hub?

One question remains: What about the new smart home tablet that has been the subject of several reports in recent weeks? This was also supposed to be getting a launch in the first quarter of 2025, but now appears to have been delayed. This is apparently due to issues with the software (codenamed Pebble), which will be heavily integrated with iOS 18.4 or even iPhone 19 and will be based on an improved version of Siri. This means that the AI hub will likely be delayed until the second half of 2025, potentially even early 2026, when both a more ChatGPT-like Siri version and a Face ID doorbell are on the cards.
